Outdoor Fun in Monroe

Louisiana is nick-named sportsman paradise for its numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation. Monroe is one of the largest cities in Louisiana. Some of the Monroe outdoor fun activities you can enjoy are visiting museums and parks, hunting, fishing, and shopping. In spite of West Monroe being the home of the duck dynasty franchise, it has so much more and then some to offer. A few of the places to visit include:
Excalibur Family Fun Center
This is a castle full of fun activities for the whole family. It consists of a go-kart track, laser tag field, a room full of arcade games and an indoor playground. It also has a rock wall, a batting cage and a miniature golf-course.
Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge
This is a wildlife habitat with various kinds of flora and fauna; from alligators and turtles to birds and coyotes. It includes a nature trail that goes through a forest wetland; you can also rent a canoe and enjoy a ride in the scenic lake. It is a very scenic place for photography. The refuge also includes a visitor’s center, arboretum and an aquarium.
Chennault Aviation & Military Museum of Louisiana
The museum is staffed entirely by volunteers, most of them being World War 2 veterans and their accounts alone are worth a visit. The museum is an aviation sanctuary housed in a building built during World War 2. A visit will help you gain a better understanding of how aviation has contributed to modern warfare as well as the sacrifices people have made serving in the U.S military. It also includes a conference center and a terrific theater.
Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum
This is a fantastic place where both children and grownups can learn together. It includes a Firehouse exhibit, health hall, toddler town, bubble works and The Big Mouth. During Christmas time, the museum transforms into Santa’s village complete with story time with Mrs. Claus, Santa visits, holiday crafts and ice skating. The kids will have so much fun they won’t know it’s a museum!
Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Museum
The museum consists of a collection of African American art, culture and history. Items include kitchenware and furniture from old slave cabins, and early cotton farming tools. Also on display are lifelike models of famous African American leaders and their history and contributions.
